Public Information Session for Backflow Prevention By-Law
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department invites Durham residents to a public information session regarding the implementation of the new backflow prevention by-law.
The backflow prevention by-law adds another level of protection to Durham Region’s multi-barrier approach to safe drinking water. The by-law requires that a backflow preventer for premise isolation is installed, maintained and tested annually on water services that could pose a hazard to the drinking water system.
The by-law applies to all industrial, commercial, institutional and multi-residential properties classified as severe or moderate hazards by the Canadian Standard Association (CSA) B64 series, except buildings of residential occupancies in accordance with the Building Code Act to which Regional water is supplied.
Affected properties are required to conduct site surveys every five years, install a premise isolation backflow preventer and maintain the backflow preventer on an annual basis in accordance with CSA.
When: May 29, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Durham Region Headquarters, Room 1-G, 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby.
Why: To provide information on the Region’s new backflow prevention by-law and inform property owners, operators and certified testers of their requirements under the by-law.
