Region of Durham invests $3.5 million into affordable housing

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is investing $3.5 million towards affordable housing, as part of its commitment to increase the supply of affordable housing across the Region.

This $3.5 million investment will help fund a new 52-unit rental apartment building in Bowmanville being developed by Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation on land made available by the Municipality of Clarington. This is part of a larger project that also includes 32 home ownership opportunities provided by Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area. This partnership between the Municipality of Clarington, Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation and the Region of Durham will create a total of 84 new units to serve residents at various income levels.

This investment into affordable housing is part of the Region’s commitment to initiating the development of 1,000 new affordable rental housing units by 2024, as per At Home in Durham, the Durham Housing Plan 2014-2024
