Region of Durham recognizes the International Day of Peace
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Tomorrow (September 21), the International Day of Peace will be recognized around the world. This call-to-action from the United Nations is an opportunity to reflect on, strengthen and commit to a culture of peace and inclusion—one that supports a just and equal society that is based on mutual respect, interconnectedness and goodwill.
People all across the globe continue to face violence and injustices arising from wars and conflict. We must stand together in solidarity and support each other in times of crisis. We must act with urgency, by embracing our shared humanity, to ensure that every person can live safely and with dignity.
In Durham Region, we are committed to addressing these complex issues by supporting initiatives that advance peace, inclusion and human rights—actions that foster a welcoming and inclusive region for every community member.
By lifting each other up, we create a more peaceful and unified world for all.”
