Region partners with Durham Community Collective to support development of a Black community hub

Whitby, Ontario – In partnership with the Durham Community Collective (DCC), The Regional Municipality of Durham’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division is working to support the development of a Black community hub.

African, Caribbean, and Black community members, from across Durham Region, have shared countless stories about their experiences with anti-Black racism; and a lack of access to responsive and reflective community resources. This shared space will empower Black community members; while offering a gathering space with culturally sensitive programs and services.

When: In June, the DCC will be hosting community conversations and targeted engagement—via two virtual and five in-person conversations—to hear from Durham’s Black, African and Caribbean communities.

Note: Feedback from these sessions will be outlined in a report from DCC this August; used to help shape a community hub specific to the needs of Durham Region residents.   

As an equity-deserving group, African, Caribbean and Black communities must have access to culturally relevant and responsive services. Therefore, the DCC is a group of Durham-based, Black-led and Black-serving organizations working together to develop this community hub. Visit the DCC website to learn more.
