Regional Chair brings Diwali greetings

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

"On Sunday (November 12), people around the world of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain faiths, will begin celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights. This cherished celebration symbolizes the spiritual triumph of light over darkness. It represents new beginnings and ideas in the spirit of hope and knowledge.

As a time of renewal and togetherness, Diwali reminds us of the importance of recognizing all that is good and positive in our lives. It is a time to celebrate unity and the rich cultural diversity of our residents.

It also reminds us that everyone has a role to play in creating the welcoming and inclusive communities that we strive for in Durham Region—communities that embrace culture, diversity and kindness.
