Regional Chair brings Lunar New Year greetings
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Tomorrow (February 10), an estimated two billion people will begin Lunar New Year (also known as Spring Festival) celebrations. This significant holiday is observed by many Chinese and Asian communities around the globe, and right here in Durham Region, to mark the first new moon in the lunar calendar year.
This year ushers in the Year of the Dragon, which represents good fortune, success and strength. In Chinese culture, the dragon is known to be straightforward and clear. This is reflective of our vision for Durham Region: a healthy, prosperous community for all.
Lunar New Year is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of our communities; the culture and traditions that bring us together; and the people who make Durham the dynamic region it is today.
I extend warm wishes of health, joy and good fortune to all those celebrating over the next two weeks.”
