Regional Chair brings New Year’s greetings
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“The start of a new calendar year is a new beginning. It is a time to be optimistic about the future, but also a time to reflect on the past year; to acknowledge the challenges we overcame, celebrate what we accomplished and grow from our learned experiences.
In 2023, we saw incredible growth as our population reached 745,000 people. Regional Council made key investments in transit, paramedics and housing. We were also met with many challenges supporting the growing needs of our community.
Thank you to the hard work of our staff, partners and community. I continue to be inspired by the incredible work that happens behind the scenes to make Durham Region a great place to live, work and call home.
In 2024, we will work to maintain our reputation as a community where equitable, high-quality services are available to everyone; to ensure we remain a destination of choice for residents and businesses.
I sincerely look forward to what we will accomplish in the year ahead. On behalf of myself and Durham Regional Council, I want to wish everyone in Durham a healthy, safe and happy new year.”
