Regional Chair brings Passover greetings
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Beginning today (April 5) at sundown, Jewish communities in Durham Region and around the world will begin the eight-day celebration of Passover (or Pesach). This important holiday commemorates the emancipation of Jewish people from slavery in ancient Egypt, celebrating the freedom and perseverance of Jewish communities.
Passover is a time for family and friends to come together to eat traditional dishes, pray and reflect, and to celebrate the many contributions of Jewish communities in Durham Region, across Canada and worldwide.
It is also an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to creating equitable communities that will help build a safe and inclusive future for our residents—communities that are free from antisemitism and discrimination in any form; where all cultures are embraced and celebrated.
I would like to extend my warmest wishes to those observing Passover. I hope you have a joyous first Seder this evening, surrounded by loved ones.
Chag Pesach Sameach!”
