Regional Chair Henry on the Provincial 2021 budget
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“On March 24, the Government of Ontario shared its 2021 Ontario Budget.
I was pleased to see support for several of Durham Region’s key priorities, such as COVID-19 relief and recovery, public transit, broadband, long-term care, and small business support—among others.
Of particular note, I was thrilled to see an additional $4.5 million investment in the Abilities Centre in Whitby, over three years.
Overall, this budget confirms that the province is placing a priority on many areas that align with Durham Region’s priorities, and we look forward to seeing pieces of these investments to help us achieve our local priorities.
I am also eager to learn more about how we can come together on other key Regional priorities, such as the Lakeshore GO East Extension, in the near future.
Through continued investment and partnership with the provincial government, we can ensure that Durham Region continues to be the best place to live, work, grow and invest. I look forward to working with our provincial partners to do just that.”
