Regional Chair statement on the passing of Brian Mulroney

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“On behalf of the Region of Durham and its residents, I offer my deepest condolences on the passing of Canada’s 18th Prime Minister, The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

Mr. Mulroney was a bold, transformative leader who had the courage to address some of the most challenging issues of his time. Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Mulroney implemented major economic policies, including the North American Free Trade Agreement; played a leading role in the campaign against apartheid in South Africa; and took strong measures to protect the environment.

Mr. Mulroney’s dedication and commitment to public service has left a lasting mark on Canadian history.

Flags at Regional facilities have been half-masted in Mr. Mulroney’s memory and will remain lowered until sunset on the day he is laid to rest.”
