Regional Chair statement on the passing of Sergeant Eric Mueller

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“On behalf of the Region of Durham and our residents, I would like to offer my deepest condolences on the passing of Sergeant Eric Mueller, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty early this morning while responding to a disturbance call in the community of Bourget.

Two of Sergeant Eric Mueller’s fellow officers were seriously wounded during this incident and are receiving critical care at the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital. We are keeping these brave individuals in our thoughts as we await further updates on their conditions. 

During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of Sergeant Eric Mueller and his fellow officers; the Ontario Provincial Police; the community of Bourget; and the City of Clarence-Rockland.

Flags at Regional Headquarters have been half-masted in their honour and will remain lowered until further notice.”
