Regional Chair statement on the passing of Sergeant Maureen Breau
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“On behalf of the Region of Durham and our residents, I would like to offer my deepest condolences on the passing of Sergeant Maureen Breau of the Sûreté du Québec police service. Sergeant Breau tragically passed away in the line of duty during a senseless act of violence in the Mauricie region of Quebec on Monday night (March 27).
During this difficult time, our thoughts are with her family and friends; colleagues at the Sûreté du Québec police service, including a second police officer who was injured during the incident and is expected to recover; and the communities that Sergeant Breau dedicated more than 20 years of her life to serving.
Flags at Regional Headquarters have been half-masted in her honour and will remain lowered until further notice.
