Regional Cycling Plan Update: Notice of Study Commencement
About the Study
The Region of Durham is updating the existing 2012 Regional Cycling Plan (RCP) to ensure that it aligns with and fulfils, the Region’s vision and strategies - as outlined in the Region’s current Transportation Master Plan (TMP). The updated RCP will enhance the Region’s cycling network maps and include a clear financial and implementation strategy that builds upon policies that reflect emerging trends, community values and available resources. The following objectives will guide future cycling infrastructure and activities across the region:
- Develop a continuous and connected region-wide cycling spine network that will integrate with existing and future proposed local municipal cycling networks, the regional multi-use trail network and the Greenbelt Cycling Route.
- Review and update policies related to active transportation, healthy community design, age-friendly communities, Durham Vision Zero and transit-oriented development.
- Expand on existing cycling and active transportation education, encouragement and awareness initiatives.
- Collaborate with federal, provincial, municipal, environmental and public stakeholders, as well as the Durham Active Transportation Committee (DACT) to inform the RCP update.
