Reminder: Celebrate Canada Day the Durham Way on July 1

Whitby, Ontario – On July 1, join us as we celebrate Canada Day the Durham Way—an uplifting, virtual celebration of the communities in Durham Region. To see a special Canada Day message check out this video.

New and exciting performances and family friendly entertainment have been announced for the event including:

• O’Canada performed by local artist, Kalista Wilson 
• Baking beaver tails with MasterChef Canada winner and host of Mary’s Kitchen Crush, Mary Berg
• Soca entertainment from The Fuh Fun Band
• Performance by The Doozies
• Face painting and juggling demonstrations
• Entertainment from Durham Street
• Performance by I, The Mountain
• Kids entertainment from Andy Griffiths
• Charcuterie board creation by Krumbs Breadery
• Get up and get moving demo from Hoop You
• Jess & Tay
• Andy Earle and the Bandits
• A virtual firework montage

The livestream will be hosted by Durham Radio host Terry Johnston and will feature shout-outs from local celebrities and representation from each municipality in Durham Region—celebrating the region’s diversity and heritage. For a full list of entertainment, please visit durham.ca/CanadaDay.

What: Hosted in collaboration between the Region of Durham and all eight local area municipalities, Canada Day the Durham Way will be a way for residents to celebrate the region’s unique attractions, see familiar faces and stay connected—while staying physically distant. The virtual event will be a celebration of our multicultural landscape and cultures; exciting performers; one-of-a-kind children’s activities; and musical talent.

Where: Canada Day the Durham Way will be broadcast on Durham Tourism Facebook Live and Rogers TV Durham, 2 to 5 p.m.

Why: In response to the cancellation of traditional Canada Day events—due to the COVID-19 pandemic—the Region and all eight local area municipalities decided to celebrate through a collaborative and virtual event.
