Reminder: help clear snow around fire hydrants
Whitby, Ontario – The Works Department reminds residents and businesses to clear the snow surrounding fire hydrants on or near their property, to increase safety and emergency response in the community.
When: Residents and businesses are asked to help clear the snow surrounding fire hydrants after snowfalls.
Where: Residents and businesses should ensure that any hydrant in front of, or adjacent to, their property is clear of snow by at least 60 cm (two feet) and easily visible from the road.
Why: When fire hydrants are covered in snow, it’s difficult for Regional and Municipal services to locate and access them in emergency situations. Quick access is critical for effective emergency response. Your help with keeping hydrants visible and accessible is appreciated.
