Reminders for your waste collection day
- Don’t be late. Set your waste out by 7 a.m. the morning of your collection day, but no sooner than 7 p.m. the evening before.
- Keep the weight down. Containers and bags should weigh no more than 20 kilograms (44 pounds) each. Items that are too heavy will not be collected.
- Winter safety. During the winter, ensure material is free of snow and ice and visible to the collection crew. Do not place material on top of snow banks.
- Avoid accidents. Wrap broken glass and sharp objects in a puncture-resistant package, clearly labelled as “GLASS” before setting it out beside your garbage for collection.
- Avoid injuries. Do not put needles, syringes or lancets in your garbage, blue box or green bin. Please visit a local pharmacy to receive a free approved sharps container. Visit healthsteward.ca to find a participating location.
- Protect the environment. Do not put household hazardous waste such as mercury, batteries, compact fluorescent light bulbs, paint, chlorine, pesticides or motor oil in your garbage, blue box or green bin. Take back unused and expired medications to a local pharmacy free of charge. Dispose of your household hazardous waste at any of the Region’s waste management facilities, or visit MakeTheDrop.ca for nearby retail collection locations that accept these items.
