Residents and stakeholders invited to provide input on Proposed Policy Directions
Whitby, Ontario – As part of Envision Durham, the Region of Durham has released Proposed Policy Directions for public review and an online survey. The feedback received on these Directions will help form the basis for draft policies in a new Regional Official Plan (ROP).
What: Based on the framework endorsed by Regional Council in November 2020, the Proposed Policy Directions are centred around seven strategic directions: a Prosperous Economy, Healthy Communities, Supportive Infrastructure, a Vibrant Urban System, a Thriving Rural System, a Protected Greenlands System, and a Connected Transportation System.
Each strategic direction covers a series of policy topics, summarizes comments received and introduces proposed policy directions for discussion.
When: Feedback on the Proposed Policy Directions are requested by June 30 (a 120-day submission window).
Where: The Proposed Policy Directions document is available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
To provide feedback through the online survey, visit durham.ca/EnvisionDurhamDirections. Specific comments can be provided directly into the survey for each proposed direction.
Why: Envision Durham is in Stage 3 (“Direct”) of its public engagement program. The Proposed Policy Directions were developed based on best practice reviews, research, public engagement and feedback received during Stages 1 (“Discover”) and 2 (“Discuss”) of the Envision Durham process.
Note: As Council’s core planning document, guiding Regional decision-making on long-term growth and development, the ROP provides policies to ensure an improved quality of life.
Envision Durham is an opportunity to deliver a new forward-looking official plan that will guide growth and change in Durham in the years ahead – providing the blueprint for Durham to become known as the place to live, learn and thrive by 2051.
