Residents asked not to leave blue boxes and green bins out overnight during strong winds
Whitby, Ontario – Due to potential strong winds in the weather forecast, The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department is asking residents not to leave blue boxes and green bins out overnight in order to reduce wind-blown litter in our communities.
When: October 31 and November 1, and all year round when windy weather is expected.
Where: Households across Durham Region who currently receive curbside collection services.
Garbage, leaf and yard waste, and green bin collection for Oshawa and Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. These residents are asked to check their waste calendars or contact their local municipality regarding collection of these items.
Why: Due to potentially strong winds, please do not leave blue boxes or green bins out overnight, as they could blow away and create litter. If possible, consider saving your recycling until your next collection day. Durham Region thanks residents for their co-operation and patience during this time of inclement weather. For the safety of workers, please ensure garbage, blue boxes and green bins are placed in a visible and accessible area before 7 a.m. on your collection day.
