Road closure on Bloor Street East in Oshawa
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of a road closure on Bloor Street East (Regional Road 22) in the City of Oshawa.
When: The first portion of the road closure and work will take place from September 21 until December 2020. The road closure and work will begin again in spring 2021 until the anticipated completion date of December 2021. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: Bloor Street East from Ritson Road (Regional Road 26) to Wilson Road South (Regional Road 35) in Oshawa.
Why: Watermain and sanitary sewer work that is necessary to replace aging infrastructure and to ensure residents continue to have access to safe, reliable and clean municipal drinking water. Information on Durham Region’s water supply systems is available at durham.ca/water.
Note: Throughout construction, Bloor Street East will be closed to all through traffic, but local traffic and emergency vehicles will have access from either Ritson Road or Wilson Road including those looking to access local businesses. Businesses in the area will remain open throughout the closure and Durham Region offers a helpful overview of what businesses can expect during construction, including tips on how to minimize the inconvenience on their business, at durham.ca/OpenForBusiness.
The Region realizes that the construction work will be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Durham Region Transit will also be affected along Bloor Street East and additional instructions for alternate bus stops and routes have been posted on durhamregiontransit.com.
Lane restrictions are expected for northbound and southbound traffic on Wilson Road, where temporary overnight and weekend work will be required to facilitate some construction activities. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
