Road widening and reconstruction on Harmony Road in Oshawa

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of ongoing lane restrictions and temporary road closures to allow road widening and reconstruction work on Harmony Road (Regional Road 33) in the City of Oshawa.

Work will occur in stages; Harmony Road will be widened to four lanes, with turning lane improvements at critical intersections, and one side of the road will be reconstructed at a time in order to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction.

When: Work will begin the week of August 2, 2020 and is expected to be complete by August 2021. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

Where: Harmony Road, from Rossland Road to Taunton Road, in the City of Oshawa.

Why: Road work includes widening, asphalt removal, grading, drainage, granular base, curb and gutter, hot mix paving, storm sewer replacement, sanitary sewer replacement, watermain replacement, traffic control signals, streetlights, bridge repairs, sidewalk and multi-use path.

Note: Traffic may be reduced to a single lane and controlled by a flag person on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., as needed. Road closures will occur at local connecting streets for a period of up to five days. If required, access for adjacent property owners will be co-ordinated with the property owner and/or businesses in advance. Pedestrian access will be maintained on one side of the road.

Municipal construction projects include the use of equipment which may cause noticeable noise and vibration for nearby residents. The Region realizes that the construction work will be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
