Sanitary sewage forcemain repair
The Region of Durham has dispatched crews to repair two sanitary sewage forcemain (pressurized pipe) breaks that occurred at Michael Boulevard Sanitary Sewage Pumping Station in the Town of Whitby. Specialized equipment is working to divert sanitary sewage on site; however, some sewage may reach Lynde Creek or the green space around it. Staff are working diligently to minimize any impacts. The timeline for completion of the repairs is unknown at this time.
The area around the sanitary sewage pumping station remains closed to the public. Residents around Michael Boulevard are asked to reduce their water usage, as conserving water use in this area will help reduce the flow into the sanitary sewer system, reducing further backup and helping to mitigate environmental impacts. The Region will advise when regular water usage is permitted.
Regional staff have notified the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks about the spill. The Region apologizes for the inconvenience that you may experience. Residents are encouraged to visit the Region’s website to monitor the situation.
