Sign up for the Canada Learning Bond at a special event
Whitby, Ontario – Eligible residents can receive money for their child’s education after high school through the Canada Learning Bond. In recognition of Education Savings Week, the Region of Durham, in partnership with the City of Oshawa, is hosting a special event where residents can meet with financial institutions and sign up for this benefit.
When: November 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: South Oshawa Community Centre, 1455 Cedar Street, Oshawa
Why: Residents can get free money for their child’s education after high school. Children qualify if they were born in 2004 or later, and the household income is less than $46,000 per year.
Please bring photo identification for the parent or guardian, the child’s birth certificate, and the Social Insurance Number (SIN) for the parent or guardian and the child. If the parent or guardian does not have a SIN, or if the child does not have a SIN or a birth certificate, staff will be on site to assist with the application process.
A Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) is required to receive the Canada Learning Bond. Assistance with opening an RESP will be available at the event.
Note: Eligible residents who are unable to attend this event can still open a RESP and receive the Canada Learning Bond through an organization that offers RESPs. If residents already have an RESP, they can contact the provider and request the Canada Learning Bond for their child.
