Whitby, Ontario – Eligible residents can receive money for their child’s education after high school through the Canada Learning Bond. In recognition of Education Savings Week from November 18 to 22, the Region of Durham, in partnership with local municipalities and libraries, school boards, community agencies, Service Canada, and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), is hosting special events where residents can meet with financial institutions and sign up for this benefit.
The Canada Learning Bond is a federal grant of up to $2,000 deposited into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP), to support families earning less than $47,000 per year in saving for their children’s post-secondary education. (Children qualify if they were born in 2004 or later.) No family contribution is required to receive the bond.
When and Where: Please bring photo identification for the parent or guardian, the child’s birth certificate, and the Social Insurance Number (SIN) for the parent or guardian and the child. If the parent or guardian does not have a SIN, or if the child does not have a SIN or a birth certificate, staff will be on site to assist with the application process.
