Statement #2 from Dr. Robert Kyle, Medical Officer of Health on COVID-19 in Durham Region
“The health and wellness of our community continues to be our top priority, and this is a critical time to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Durham Region.
That’s why I support the enhanced public health measures announced by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, ordering all dine-in restaurants, bars, nightclubs, theatres, churches, private schools and daycares close today, March 17, 2020. Businesses that provide food takeout and delivery options are encouraged to keep those options available to continue to provide the public with food options while limiting social interactions between people.
To our community: I recognize that these are unprecedented measures for unprecedented times. We can slow community spread of this virus. I urge everyone to practise social distancing—stay at least two metres away from others and stay home as much as possible. If you have travelled outside of the country, follow the recommendations for self-isolation. Stay cautious, stay informed, and wash your hands frequently.
We continue to monitor this situation very closely and provide updates to our residents. Please visit durham.ca/NovelCoronavirus for the most up-to-date information.”
