Statement from Regional Chair on acknowledging International Day of Peace
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Today (September 21) is International Day of Peace—a call-to-action to protect human rights, address global challenges and advocate the need for a society free from fear and violence for people of all identities.
We need peace more than ever. People around the world are being displaced from their homes due to war, poverty, inequity and other unprecedented global challenges.
Durham Region is committed to addressing these challenges; to build a welcoming and inclusive community for all who arrive here.
We will continue to work to address inequities in our communities through Durham Region’s Strategic Plan, Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, and other initiatives that advance peace, stability and human rights.
When we respect, value and support one another, we are shaping a brighter tomorrow.”
