Supporting openness and transparency in your local government
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has created an Accountability and Transparency page on durham.ca to help the public quickly find information that supports open and transparent regional government processes. This includes: accessing information managed by the municipality; the declarations of interest registry for Council and local board members; resolving service complaints; and the accountability officials responsible for educating and advising Regional Council and local boards on codes of conduct, and complaint investigations.
When: The Accountability and Transparency page is live on durham.ca.
Where: This page can be accessed under the Regional Government section, as well as from the Council page on durham.ca.
Why: The Region of Durham understands that individuals are looking for increased transparency and accountability in their government; and works to ensure public confidence through the highest levels of ethical conduct and behaviour.
The Accountability and Transparency web page brings together existing information that was previously spread across durham.ca; providing one helpful central reference point for content on: access to information, closed meetings, complaints, declarations of interest and accountability officials (Integrity Commissioner and the Municipal Ombudsman).
