Thanking Durham Region volunteers for their dedication during National Volunteer Week
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer, and Elaine Baxter-Trahair, Chief Administrative Officer:
“Volunteerism is at the heart of Durham Region’s spirit. That is why we are honoured to recognize National Volunteer Week. This year’s theme is ‘Volunteering Is Empathy In Action.’ Many of us have learned the importance and power of empathy throughout the past two years.
In recognition of the week, we would like to thank all the volunteers throughout Durham Region for strengthening our community with their dedication, commitment and sacrifice.
There is no kinder, more empathetic action than to help people and your community without expectation of something in return.
Whether you serve on a Regional committee or have offered your service to those in need during the pandemic through non-profit and community-led organizations, we would like to thank you.
You are examples of what empathy looks like in action—with your devotion to improving the lives of others. Your actions prove why #DurhamStrong is our motto.
Thank you volunteers, for all that you do.”
