The Region of Durham recognizes local organizations for implementing Smart Commute initiatives
Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham recently presented Veridian Connections with the 2018 Smart Commute Durham Employer of the Year Award. The award recognizes the company’s commitment to sustainability initiatives and its dedication to growing their Smart Commute program.
Last year, Veridian installed a bike maintenance station that can be used by all cyclists, including those biking to work. The company has also seen growing employee participation in its Smart Commute initiatives and an increased demand for carpool spaces.
“Working with our community partners to provide employee transportation strategies combats traffic congestion, improves air quality, and contributes to a healthy environment,” said Brian Bridgeman, Commissioner of Planning and Economic Development. “We are proud to celebrate the progress made by each of Smart Commute Durham’s 29-member companies; and recognize the time, effort and dedication made by Veridian Connections to improve smart transit options for their employees.”
Smart Commute is a program of Metrolinx and the municipalities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, which shares smart travel options such as walking, cycling, transit and carpooling. Established in 2007, the Smart Commute Awards were introduced to officially recognize employer members and partners who have put forth exceptional effort in implementing their Smart Commute programs.
