Together We Rise Durham: Excellence Through the Arts
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“On February 1, we recognize the beginning of Black History Month in Durham Region. The theme this year is Together We Rise Durham: Excellence Through the Arts.
Throughout our nation’s history, Black Canadians have contributed significantly to making Canada the culturally diverse and prosperous country it is today. We celebrate their achievements, not only throughout the month of February, but all year round.
Across the region, there are many Black Canadians doing amazing and impactful work. A key piece of making Durham the great place that it is to live, work and play.
We stand by the promise we have made to continue to grow in diversity, ensuring that tomorrow’s Durham is even more equitable, dynamic, and connected for all.
I encourage everyone to take some time this month to reflect, learn and come together for an enlightening and educational Black History Month.”
