Upcoming road closure on Olive Avenue at Simcoe Street South in Oshawa
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents and businesses of an upcoming road closure on Olive Avenue at Simcoe Street South in the City of Oshawa.
When: The closure will be on September 18 and 19. Current lane restrictions in place on Simcoe Street South will continue until fall 2024. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
Where: The closure will be on Olive Avenue (Regional Road 59) at Simcoe Street South (Regional Road 2) in Oshawa. There will be no access from Simcoe Street onto Olive Avenue or from Olive Avenue onto Simcoe Street, however one northbound lane will be open through the intersection on Simcoe Street South during the closure. Traffic will be detoured via First Avenue and Ritson Road (Regional Road 16).
Why: The closure is required for the safe installation of a new watermain. This work is part of the Simcoe Street South Road Reconstruction/Rehabilitation project. To address aging and deteriorating infrastructure, the Region of Durham will be replacing watermains and sanitary sewers. This project also includes road rehabilitation and storm sewer replacement. Note: Businesses in the area will remain open throughout the duration of the construction. Durham Region offers a helpful overview of what businesses can expect during construction, including tips on how to minimize the inconvenience to their business, at durham.ca/OpenForBusiness.
The Region realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and work crews.
