Vote today for Durham Region for Smart Cities Transportation Infrastructure Award
Durham Region has been named a finalist by the International Data Corporation (IDC) for the 2023 IDC Smart Cities North America Award in Transportation Infrastructure for its End-to-End Digital Transformation in Road Maintenance Using CityROVER AI Smart Cameras and Digital Work Management.
Help Durham Region achieve this award by voting on IDC’s website under section 14 for Transportation Infrastructure: bit.ly/3JKtpvn.
The project uses innovative technology in its road maintenance operations with CityROVER, which is a system that uses smart cameras to automatically detect road hazards and issues. Records are then transmitted through the cloud for staff to review and process before dispatching repair crews.
The repair crews now also use digital management software, providing immediate access to assigned work orders and data. The result of using this technology has included:
- Improved safety for staff and public road users.
- End-to-end digitization and elimination of paper processes.
- Improved productivity measured as 29,131 road deficiencies mapped and 3,251 service requests processed using the same resource levels.
- Automated record keeping for compliance with maintenance standards for priority repairs and coverage of road network.
- Enhanced deficiencies mapping guides maintenance measures, extending life of infrastructure.
- Better tracking used for better budgeting and planning.
- Reduction in risk, liability and claims through proactive maintenance practices.
This process improvement benefits all road users within Durham Region, helping to resolve road maintenance issues more efficiently and keeping everyone safe. Vote for Durham Region’s project today, voting closes on March 31.
