Waterfront Trail at Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant closed during construction work
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, in partnership with The Regional Municipality of York, will be making enhancements to the Waterfront Trail and surrounding area by the Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). The Waterfront Trail and Frisco Road in Pickering will be closed in stages to complete the work.
When: Pre-construction site works to commence in early March. Further updates to be provided as project progresses. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Where: The Waterfront Trail is an approximately 1.5 kilometres paved trail that connects to Montgomery Park Road in the City of Pickering, borders the south area of the Duffin Creek WPCP, and extends east towards Rotary Park in the Town of Ajax. The work will rebuild Frisco Road in the City of Pickering and enhance the Waterfront Trail.
Why: The scope of work is to rebuild Frisco Road and enhance the Waterfront Trail. This work will not impact the operation of the Duffin Creek WPCP. The Regions have consulted with and received approvals, authorizations and responses from Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), the City of Pickering and the Town of Ajax.
Note: The Regions realize that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
