Weight restrictions on Lake Ridge Road to improve traffic safety

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has implemented a maximum weight restriction of 5,000 kilograms or five tonnes per axle for Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23) in the City of Pickering, Town of Whitby, and townships of Scugog and Uxbridge. Weight restrictions are enacted under the authority of the Highway Traffic Act and Regional By-law 26-2018.

When: Immediately and until further notice.

Where: Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23) from Myrtle Road (Regional Road 5) to approximately two kilometres south of Goodwood Road (Regional Road 21) in the City of Pickering, Town of Whitby, and townships of Scugog and Uxbridge.

Why: To improve traffic safety and reduce ongoing and increasing maintenance costs.

Note: Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and the Ministry of Transportation Ontario monitor vehicles to enforce weight restrictions. As this concerns public safety, there will be no exemptions to this weight restriction.
