Your input is needed for the Growth Management–Urban System Discussion Paper
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham’s Planning Division has released its Growth Management–Urban System Discussion Paper. This paper is the third of several discussion papers to be released throughout 2019, as part of Envision Durham, the Region’s Municipal Comprehensive Review of the Durham Regional Official Plan (ROP). The public is invited to provide input through a series of discussion questions to help inform the Region’s process.
What: This Discussion Paper looks at the region’s Urban System (lands within the Urban Boundary that are planned to accommodate the majority of the region’s forecasted population and job growth). It discusses changes to provincial plans; visualizes what future growth could look like; reviews trends in population, employment and development patterns; highlights strategic growth areas; and outlines approaches to updating the Region’s Urban System.
When: The Growth Management–Urban System Discussion Paper is available for public input from June 4 to September 2 (a 90-day commenting period).
Where: The Growth Management–Urban System Discussion Paper is available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
Why: Envision Durham is in the “Discuss” stage of its public engagement program, and we need your input. Please consider providing comments on the Growth Management–Urban System Discussion Paper.
Note: Envision Durham is an opportunity to plan for change, by replacing the current Regional Official Plan (ROP) and establishing a progressive and forward-looking planning vision for the region to 2041. As Council’s core planning document, guiding Regional decision-making on long-term growth and development, the ROP provides policies to ensure an improved quality of life. Our vision is to create healthy and complete, sustainable communities within the region, and shape Durham into a great place to live, work, play, grow and invest.
Previously released discussion papers on the Agriculture and Rural System (released March 5), and Climate Change and Sustainability (released May 7), are also available for public input on our website. Additional discussion papers on the Environment and Greenlands System, the Transportation System, and Housing, will be released later in 2019. Details are available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
