Your Voice Durham: help shape the future of Durham Region
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is currently developing its five-year strategic plan—a guiding document that will identify priorities for Regional Council, while creating a framework for the organization’s service planning and delivery.
To support the public engagement process, the Region is launching Your Voice Durham, a new digital engagement platform meant to inspire conversation and encourage community participation—anytime, anywhere. Through the website durham.ca/YourVoice, residents from across Durham can share their thoughts and ideas, complete a short online survey, and subscribe for project updates. Input received through the site will be used to help define the strategic priorities and objectives for Durham Region.
“Community input is vital to the success of this plan and the future of our region. It is important that the strategies we develop represent the needs of our community,” said Elaine Baxter-Trahair, Chief Administrative Officer. “Through our new digital engagement platform, residents, businesses and community organizations from across the region will have the opportunity to identify issues, opportunities and common priorities that will guide Regional operations for the next five years and beyond.”
The strategic planning process is being led by the Durham Region Strategic Plan Development Task Force—a group of four Regional councillors and two senior staff members from the Region. A special council meeting was held in March, as a first step in a broad consultation process to help determine key trends and strategic directions.
Residents are encouraged to visit the site to find out about upcoming public engagement sessions, including town halls, pop-up events and where they can complete a paper copy of the survey. Visit durham.ca/YourVoice for more information and join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #YourVoiceDurham.
Residents are also invited to participate in the #PictureDurham photo challenge and share their best photos of Durham Region. Photos can be shared via social media using the hashtag #PictureDurham and may be featured in our upcoming strategic plan!
